In a short statement Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised that Israel would not stand by while her people were attacked. He said, “We all witnessed an attempt to ratchet up the level of terror emanating from Sinai. If someone thinks that Israel will put up with this, he is wrong.”
“I have established a principle: when Israeli citizens are hurt, we hit back immediately, and with force. This principle was implemented today. The people who gave the order to murder our civilians, who were hiding in Gaza, are no longer among the living,”
Netanyahu praised the IDF, the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security services), and Yamam (the Israeli elite Counter-Terrorism Warfare Unit) for their courage that averted what could have been a much greater tragedy.
Six of those murdered in Thursday’s attacks were civilians. Two of the wounded were small children, aged 4 and 7.
