Israeli Camp for Arab Kids with Cancer is Hardly ‘Newsworthy’

Arab children from Judea, Samaria, and Gaza throw snowballs at IDF sponsored summer camp on Mount Hermon.

A Civil Administration’s summer camp for Palestinian Authority children with cancer failed to interest media and the program went unnoticed in the world’s press, which otherwise spends inordinate amounts of time and space bashing Israel.

The IDF Civil Administration hosted a three-day summer camp in early July for 24 cancer-stricken children from the Palestinian Authority (PA) entities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

The event went unnoticed by news outlets inside and outside Israel that are usually eager to pounce on news casting Israel in a bad light and showing its alleged cruelty toward the PA Arabs.

The camp was financed by the Civil Administration, reported the website of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT). The activities included horse riding, playing in an inflatable jumping equipment environment for children, a music workshop and various other attractions.

The activities took place at the Jordan Park, which contains tourist, recreation and archeological facilities.

The Health Coordinator in Judea & Samaria, Mrs. Dalia Basa, coordinated the children’s visit with the park management after having verified that the facilities in the park and the basic medical services are adapted to the children’s special needs.

Blogger Elder of Zion noted that no Israeli newspaper carried the story, meaning that Israel itself has done “a really poor job” publicizing the camp.

[Meanwhile] . . . . Fatah named a summer camp after a terrorist who led an attack that killed 37 Israelis, Palestinian Media Watch reported.

Among the victims of Dalal Mughrabi, namesake of the new “Sisters of Dalal Mughrabi” camp, were 12 children. Speaking to summer camp participants, the Governor of the Jericho district called Mughrabi “a beacon for us in our activities.”

Palestinian summer camps are often a “transparent effort” by the United ations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to raise more money, Middle East Forum Founder Daniel Pipes told UNRWA is “putting the burden on the outside world, that you and I should be ponying up the funds to keep Gazan children occupied in the summer,” he said.

“I don’t know about you, but no one is paying for my children’s summer camp,” Pipes said.
